Elementary Art Curriculum

Each student at Good Hope Elementary has one art period for the week.  It is highly recommended that each student wear old clothes and shoes on the days that we have art, since some art mediums will soil clothing.

I will be in the art room before school Mondays through Friday at 7:30 and will stay until 3:15.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays I will stay until 4:00 for children who work slowly, miss an art class, or need extra help on a project.  I ask that you let me know ahead of time if this is needed.  I will also allow students to check out certain items to work on a project at home.

Our art curriculum is based upon National Visual Art Standards.  We will focus on art production, art history, and interdisciplinary connections.  Not only will students produce art generated from individual expression, but they will also learn about the aesthetics of the world around them.  Additionally, we will study various artists and their styles as it relates to history..  Students will be exposed to a wide variety of artists, cultures, theories, methods, styles, and materials.  Each student will keep a portfolio for the year.  Portfolios will contain various works such as watercolor, tempera, acrylic, chalk, pencil sketches, markers, and crayons.

We always need parents to help.  Please let me know if you would be willing to volunteer to help in art.  I will need volunteers from time to time to do various jobs, such as display students' art work or help with bulletin boards. Additionally,at this time we have very few consumable art supplies.  If you would be willing to donate time, money or supplies, we would greatly appreciate it!!  You may contact me at cweaver@ccboe.org.  The following is a wish list (most can be found at Hobby Lobby) if you would like to help:

Celeste Weaver, Art Teacher

Art has always been my passion and I am so excited to get to teach it to Good Hope Elementary students!   My art studio is called Thunder Ridge Art. Thunder Ridge is the name of my farm, where I live with my husband and two beautiful daughters.  We have horses and I have a little dog named Sophie.  To view some of my artwork, check out my web site at www.mcweaver.com .  I started school at Good Hope in 1968 and graduated from Good Hope in 1980.  I went to Wallace and then to Auburn University where I graduated with a teaching degree.  Later I got my master's degree and AA degree from UAB.  This is my 26th year to teach elementary students, and my first year to teach art.  God has blessed me and I am so thankful to have another opportunity this year to teach elementary students. You can contact me via email at
